BACKGROUND
Geoffrey started his legal career at the firm of Kaplan & Stratton Advocates in 2015 when he joined as a Trainee Advocate and was subsequently retained as an Associate in the firms’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department upon his admission to the bar in 2016.

Geoffrey subsequently founded GNN Advocates in 2021 after a brief stint at JNO Advocates, LLP, where he held the position of Partner and head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution.

His principal areas of practice include advising and representing clients in Employment, Industrial Relations & Retirement Benefits, Civil & Commercial Disputes, Arbitration & Mediation, environmental and conservation law, intellectual property disputes, land disputes, insolvency and security realization, corporate law, criminal law and constitutional law.

Geoffrey handles matters in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, the High Court, Employment & Labour Relations Court, subordinate courts and specialized tribunals. He also carries out legal due diligence on behalf clients.

EXPERIENCE

  • Commercial and civil dispute resolution, litigation and transactions.
  • Successfully representing various corporate and individual clients in the Court of Appeal on employment & industrial relations disputes and land disputes including claims for adverse possession.
  • Representing various multinational companies including horticultural and tea companies at the Employment and Labour Relations Court in disputes relating to the negotiation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA’S) with the employees’ Union, illegal strikes by the employees, eviction of employees from the employer’s premises, termination and summary dismissal.
  • Advising several multinationals as well as Kenyan employers in respect of employment law including redundancy, termination, dismissal, work injury, CBA & Recognition Agreement claims and restrictive trade practices.
  • Advising and representing various agricultural based multinational companies on the imposition of Cess, various taxation measures by County governments and expiry of land leases arising out of the transition into the devolved system of government.
  • Advising and representing two South African based multinational financing solutions providers which companies are involved in the sales and financing of heavy commercial vehicles including buses and trucks within the Africa region on security realization, debt recovery disputes and motor vehicle accident claims.
  • Advising and representing clients in the Family and children’s court on divorce, separation, child custody and maintenance cases.
  • Advising and representing clients to prepare objections against tax claims by the Kenya Revenue Authority to the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes and in appeals to the Tax Appeals Tribunal and the High Court of Kenya.
  • Advising and representing clients with respect to Intellectual Property disputes both in the Industrial Property Tribunal and the High Court of Kenya.
  • Advising and representing clients with respect to land use and Environment matters both at the NEMA Tribunal and the High Court of Kenya.
  • Advising and representing various clients on investigations by state agencies including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on quasi-criminal proceedings.
  • Undertaking due diligence exercises and legal audits in both domestic and international transactions involving banks and property acquisition
